Pascal Berthoud is a swiss artist born in Geneva. He is represented by Papillon gallery (Belgium), Espace A Vendre gallery (Nice, France) and Gowen Contemporary gallery (Geneva, Switzerland). His work is regularly presented in Switzerland and overseas in artfairs, galleries, contemporary art centers and museums: Metro Pictures gallery, New York; Musée des Beaux-arts, Douai; Musée Jenisch, Vevey; Centre d’art contemporain de Vitry, Vitry-sur-Seine; Musée Rath, Geneva; The Emily Harvey Foundation, New York; Palais de l’Athénée, Geneva; Centre d’art contemporain d’Yverdon, Yverdon. He has taught at the Haute école d’art et de Design in Geneva (HEAD – Genève) for a number of years. A monographic book about his work was recently published by the Swiss publisher Infolio, with the support of the Canton of Geneva and the City of Neuchâtel. The book contains critiques written by Swiss museum directors and international curators. He explores the idea of time, through his work as an artist, and by using drawing and sculpture as a way to resist the constant stream of instant images that characterizes our current period. His installations include various kinds of spatialization that interweave a plurality of space-times and connect reality with virtuality, figuration with abstraction, and geometricity with organic forms. He brings polychrome Icebergs into resonance with monumental drawings of abstract structures, materializes Météorites made of stainless steel, represents Formations nuageuses or Vortexes, and produces very large paintings, based on fragments of scientific images, which question our relationship with memory, erasure, the environment, modernism and the current digitization of images.
